There was no general rate increase on average in workers' compensation rates in 2012. In total, 171 risk classes increased and 146 risk classes decreased or stayed the same.

2011 base rates for workers' compensation

L&I announced an average 12% rate increase per hour for 2011. This was equivalent to a 9.7% increase in the rate per $100 of payroll.

2010 base rates for workers' compensation

L&I announced an average 7.6% rate increase per hour for 2010. This was equivalent to a 5.5% increase in the rate per $100 of payroll.

These rates are based on the adoption of new rules regarding unassigned occupational disease claims for Retrospective Rating.

The partial Rate Holiday means that Washington employers and workers who pay premiums to L&I will pay no Medical Aid Fund premiums for work performed July 1 through December 31, 2007.

Medical Aid premiums for January 1 through June 30, 2007 are paid as normal by the employer and worker.

Medical Aid premiums for July 1 through December 31, 2007 are being paid by L&I using excess funds through the partial rate holiday that will also affect the employee payroll deduction.
