Out of State Care Coordination
Care Coordination
L&I can use nurse case managers to coordinate care for Washington injured workers residing out-of-state.
Referrals are made by L&I claim managers to assist injured workers in finding needed health care resources in a timely manner. NCMs are privately employed professionals
Lookup service
To assist injured workers in finding a doctor in their area, L&I has developed a lookup service, Find a Doctor. The search criteria includes provider type, specialty and zip code. Search results display the provider's name, address and phone number. Being listed doesn't mean a provider is willing or able to accept a patient.

Injured workers continue to have a choice of attending provider
Referral is made to a NCM located in a geographic area near the injured worker. They are also familiar with the health care resources in that area. The NCM:
- Helps the injured worker find needed health care resources.
- Helps the selected health care provider understand what is needed by L&I.
- Makes sure the provider:
- Has an L&I provider account number.
- Knows how to bill L&I.
- Knows when and where to send progress reports.
- Helps the provider get any needed information from L&I.
NCM policies and billing information is available in the current fee schedule.
