Sedative-hypnotics

Coverage decision

L&I covers scheduled sedative-hypnotics or benzodiazepines when prescribed to aid sleep for acute use only. Coverage beyond 30 days will require prior authorization (see WAC 296-20-03014(3) & (4)).

Newer sedative-hypnotics which act on the benzodiazepine receptor are part of the state Preferred drug list. "Dispense as written" and Therapeutic Interchange Program provisions for endorsing practitioners will apply only for acute use.
