Coverage Decisions for Medical Technologies & Procedures

Interferential therapy units

Coverage decision

L&I covers renting or purchasing interferential units but only through the TENS contract. Our current contract with Performance Modalities, Inc. (PMI) is an exclusive contract. Therefore, all rental or purchasing transactions of interferential units must go through PMI. The department will deny all other requests.

Interferential therapy units address chronic pain conditions through non-invasive, electrical stimulation. Electrodes administer electrical currents to pain sites. The beat frequencies that the currents create help to resolve pain.
