The Department of Labor & Industries is seeking a highly motivated Investigator with strong writing and interpersonal communication skills. Successful candidate will be able to produce detailed and thorough written investigative reports of their findings.

This position is responsible for conducting investigations into allegations of fraud by injured workers, employers and providers, protecting the Industrial Insurance Fund. You will aggressively investigate allegations of inappropriate activity, theft or deception against the Department of Labor & Industries.

 

The Fraud Investigator will:
  • Investigate claim validity, activity and allegations.
  • Interview complainants, employers and witnesses.
  • Research records and obtain documentation related to personnel, medical and other evidence.
  • Conduct field surveillance; gather, evaluate and preserve evidence.
  • Manage, organize, document and complete a caseload of investigation assignments.
  • Obtain and serve subpoenas and coordinates the service of search warrants.
  • Prepare detailed and thorough investigative reports.
  • Testify in legal or administrative hearings and trials.
  • Work with supervisor to present investigations to and assist prosecutors, U.S. Attorney’s Office or Assistant Attorneys General.



Preferred Qualifications:

Five years experience as an investigator with a criminal justice agency or criminal investigative agency of the armed forces, or investigating personal backgrounds, unfair and deceptive business practices, insurance casualty claims or other directly allied field.


 
Desired Education:

College-level course work with major emphasis in business administration, public administration, law, one of the criminal justice disciplines, or directly allied fields.


Knowledge of:

Methods, principles, standards and, techniques of criminal and civil investigations. Rules of evidence; chain of custody, laws of arrest, search and seizure and techniques of investigative report writing.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Research and gather information relevant to the investigation process.

  • Testify in legal or administrative hearings or trials.
  • Obtain and serve legal documents in accordance with established statutes, laws and regulations.
  • Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to travel to various locations throughout the region to conduct investigations.

  • Employees driving on state business must have a valid driver’s license. Employees driving a privately owned vehicle on state business must have liability insurance on the privately-owned vehicle.
