Hazard Communication and the Globally Harmonized System (GHS)

Course description

The Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals has already been incorporated into Federal Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) Hazard Communication Standard. As a result, the State of Washington has adopted the new GHS for Hazard Communication rule which became effective April 15, 2013. This workshop will assist the employer in understanding what information must be included on labels of hazardous chemicals and safety data sheets. It will help employers understand the new GHS criteria for the classification of health and physical hazards as it applies to the development of safety data sheets. Some of what you will learn:

  • What the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) standard is and how it applies to employers, manufacturers, distributors and all industries that are subject to Chemical Hazard Communication Rules.
  • Learn about the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) requirements
  • Learn the New GHS classification and labeling of chemical requirement
  • Learn the New Symbols and Pictograms
  • Review of current hazard communication Rules
This workshop is designed for employers who have potential employer/employee exposure to corrosives, strong irritants, or toxic chemicals. This workshop will take approximately 3 hours.
