Safety & Health Grants

Special three-month safety and health application period has been extended.

Do you have an innovative idea for improving workplace safety and health or a creative solution to help injured workers return to work soon after an injury? If so, now is the time to apply for a grant from L&I's Safety and Health Investment Projects (SHIP) grant program.

SHIP has extended its safety and health special emphasis period.  Applications will be accepted through April 30, 2014.

The program offers two types of grants:

  • Safety and Health grants are awarded for new ideas that encourage workplace safety and health and prevent injuries and occupational illness. Grants may be up to $125,000 in these topic areas.
    • Workplace Violence;
    • Materials Handling;
    • Ladder Safety;
    • Logging Safety;
    • Vulnerable Workers;
      • Monolinguistic workers;
      • Temporary workers;
  • Return to Work grants help industries bring to life creative solutions that will get injured employees back on the job sooner and reduce long-term disability. There is no monetary cap for RTW grants.  These grants are accepted on an ongoing basis.

Grant limits and other criteria

The following criteria will apply to all SHIP grant applications:

  • Eligibility requirements for SHIP grants are listed on the application form and in WAC 296-900-175.
  • Grant requests for this round will not exceed $125,000.
  • Grants approved for this cycle should expect to receive grant funds and begin work approximately June/July 2014.
  • Successful applicants will be required to attend an in-person grantee orientation to receive specific guidance and information about managing their SHIP grant experience.
  • Project duration for projects approved for this cycle should not exceed 12 months.
  • Products and materials developed or created through a SHIP grant must be available for distribution by SHIP to others who can benefit from them.

SHIP applications will not be accepted outside of open grant acceptance periods.

Please check at the beginning each open grant cycle that you have the most recent version of the application for that cycle, as the most recent version of the application is the only version that will be accepted.

Approved Grants

A goal of the SHIP grants is that the products, training, guidelines and other materials created under the grant program have the greatest possible impact. Products produced by SHIP grant projects will be accessible for download from this website at no cost after projects are completed. Check the site often for new additions.
