Outdoor Heat Exposure

Course description

L&I has adopted a new permanent workplace rule to protect workers from outdoor heat exposure. The effective date of this new rule is July 5th, 2008. The rule requires employers with employees who work outdoors to:

  • Train employees and supervisors to recognize heat-related illness and what to do if someone has symptoms.
  • On days when temperatures require preventative measures, increase the volume of water available to employees.
  • Have the ability to appropriately respond to any employee with symptoms of illness.

This workshop covers the requirements of the new Outdoor Heat Exposure rule as well as a sample employee/supervisor training program. The sample training program includes all of the training requirements of the rule and can be adapted by employers to provide the required training to their employees.

Who should attend: Company owners, managers, supervisors, foremen, and safety and health professionals of any business whose work involves employee exposure to outdoor heat between May 1st and September 30th of each year. The Outdoor Heat Exposure Rule does not apply to businesses whose employees are only exposed to outdoor heat on an incidental basis of 15 minutes or less in any sixty-minute period.

Please register in advance to ensure your place at the session you choose. Space is limited.
