The following cities issue permits and perform inspections within their local city limits. L&I does not issue permits or do inspections in the cities listed on this page or within Tacoma Power’s service area.

Tacoma Power issues permits and performs inspections for properties they serve in the cities of Tacoma, Fircrest, University Place, Fife, parts of Steilacoom, Lakewood, and unincorporated Pierce County as far south as Roy. View a more detailed map of their service area. Please verify jurisdiction before obtaining a permit to avoid delays and refund processing fees. 

Find out if your project is within one of the city inspection jurisdictions with this tool: https://webgis.dor.wa.gov/taxratelookup/SalesTax.aspx. Start by entering the street address and zip code. If no city is named under the Sales & Use tab, the address is in the county named. A city name is present only when the address is within a city. There is no guarantee that the tool is always up to date, but it is highly accurate.

If your jobsite is:

• Within the limits of a city on this list: You must contact them to purchase an electrical permit and request an inspection.
• Within Pierce County: Check to see if your jobsite is in Tacoma Power's jurisdiction before you apply for your permit.

If your jobsite is not within the city limits of one of the following cities or with Tacoma Power, purchase your permit from L&I.
