Test Logs Required

An L&I Elevator Inspector will post the Test Log form in the machine room. You are required to track the appropriate inspections and tests, record it on the Test Log form and apply tags to equipment where applicable.

Requirements for Specific Types of Elevators and Conveyances

Traction and Cable Elevators (see Rules 1000-1005)

  • 1-year no load safety test, oil buffer test, and other applicable tests.
  • 5-year full load safety test, oil buffer, brake test, and other applicable tests.
  • Tags and seals for a one-year test must be applied to the governor and oil buffers.
  • Tags and seals for a five-year test must be applied where applicable to governor, oil buffers and releasing carriage. Reports for a five-year test must be submitted on the L&I Test Data form (available through your elevator service company or our office).

Hydraulic (see Rules 1000-1006)

  • 1-year relief valve pressure test, cylinder test, and other applicable tests.

Water Hydraulic

  • Slack rope switch, 3-year test for water hydraulic pistons and pressurized tanks and other applicable tests.
  • 1-year relief valve pressure test, cylinder test, and other applicable tests.

Roped Hydraulic

  • 5-year full load test for governors, safeties, ropes, and oil buffers.

Tags and seals must be applied to relief valve, tanks, and oil buffers where applicable.

 Important: All work must be completed by qualified personnel. Smoke tests may be performed by owner or owners representative).
