New toll-free line serves injured workers, medical providers and employers

TUMWATER - A new toll-free phone number that gives employers, medical providers and injured workers access to information from the Department of Labor & Industries via touch-tone phone will take effect Nov. 17, department officials announced today.

The new Easy Access Claim Information Line will provide automated assistance weekdays between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. It can be reached at 1-800-831-5227.

Injured workers who have filed a compensation claim with the department can use this line to check if their claim has been processed or if a check has been sent. Medical providers can find out if a bill has been paid or if certain medical procedures have been authorized by the department. And employers can use the line to learn how many payments have been made to an injured worker on their payroll, to find out the status of a claim and to check their current workers' compensation premium rates.

The toll-free number is the same that has been in operation for injured workers for nearly a decade. The single number replaces other toll-free numbers that have been in place for medical providers and employers.

The new single number takes advantage of new voice technology and is expected to be easier for callers than the toll-free lines that have been in place.
