Hearing set on changes for domestic servants, chore workers

TUMWATER – The Department of Labor & Industries will hold a public hearing July 9 to solicit comments on a proposal to create new general classification rules and amend classification descriptions for employers.

Also, one risk class – 6508, domestic servants and chore workers – would be abolished and replaced by two new risk classes – 6510, domestic servants, and 6511, chore workers.

The department said the changes are necessary to fairly distribute the cost of paying for work-related injury claims between domestic servants and chore workers.

The proposed changes would not change premium payments now assigned to employers in these risk classes. The rate for 1998 premiums is 50.66 cents per each worker hour.

The proposal includes repealing 26 general rules and replacing them with about 32 new general rules written according to clear-rule standards.

The hearing July 9 will be from 10 a.m. to noon in the auditorium of the L&I building at 7273 Linderson Way SW in Tumwater.

Written comments may be submitted through July 9 to: Ken Woehl, Classification Services, Labor & Industries, PO Box 44148, Olympia, WA 98504-4148, or via fax at (360) 902-4729.

Additional information about the proposals is available by contacting Classification Services at 360-902-4776.
