Forklift operators invited to compete at Western Washington Forklift Rodeo

TUMWATER - Professional forklift operators in Western Washington are invited to compete this summer at the regional qualifying competition for the 5th Annual Forklift Rodeo State Championship. The contest takes place in Seattle on Aug. 17. Regional winners will take home prizes ranging from $300 to $100.

Competitors will test their abilities in the following: a written exam, forklift safety inspection and an obstacle course. The forklifts to be provided are rated at 5,000 pounds and equipped with automatic transmissions.

The entry fee for the Aug. 17 competition is $40. To receive an application, visit the Governor's Conference Web site to print an application or contact Char Alexander at 360-902-5446, Mike Farley at 360-902-5591, or call toll-free at 888-451-2004. TDD users can call 360-902-5797.

The top 10 qualifiers from the Aug. 17 Western Washington competition and the top 10 qualifiers from the Eastern Washington competition, which was held June 1 in Wenatchee, will go on to compete in the Forklift Rodeo on Oct. 30. The rodeo is part of the Governor's Industrial Safety and Health Conference, which takes place in Spokane on Oct. 30-31, at the Spokane Convention Center.

Top championship prizes of $500, $400 and $300 will be awarded to the statewide rodeo winners.
