Seeking real-life heroes and heroines for lifesaving awards

TUMWATER – Do you know someone whose quick thinking and fast actions saved a life? If so, nominations for the Governor’s annual lifesaving awards are now being accepted.

Award recipients will be featured guests at the Governor’s Industrial Safety and Health Conference in Seattle. The Sept. 17-18 conference is co-sponsored by the Governor’s Industrial Safety and Health Advisory Board and the Department of Labor & Industries.

All Washington workers covered by the workers’ compensation system or self-insured employers are eligible for the lifesaving nomination. The heroic act must have taken place between July 1, 2002, and June 30, 2003, any day or time, anywhere in the world.

The hero or heroine must have performed “hands-on” aid in saving a life. For law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians and other emergency aid professionals, the lifesaving action must be “above and beyond the line of duty.”

For a lifesaving nomination form and additional information, contact Gil Paganini, lifesaving award coordinator, at 360-902-5441 or pagg235@Lni.wa.gov. The form is also available online at www.LNI.wa.gov/wisha/gov-conf/. Deadline for submitting applications is July 31.

For more information about the conference, call toll-free at 1-888-451-2004. TDD users may call 360-902-5797.
