Registration begins for worker safety and health conference
TUMWATER — Registration is now open for the 53rd annual Governor’s Industrial Safety and Health Conference Sept. 29 and 30 at the Spokane Convention Center.
The conference, co-sponsored by the Governor’s Industrial Safety and Health Advisory Board and the Department of Labor & Industries, is one of the largest of its kind in the nation and annually draws thousands of safety and health professionals. This year’s theme is "Safety and Health: It's Your Best Investment."
Gov. Gary Locke is scheduled to open the conference and present several lifesaving awards. Keynote speaker is John Nance, an aviation expert and best-selling author. His entertaining presentation focuses on taking lessons learned from aviation disasters to improve safety in other industries.
Featured conference events and activities include:

- Displays and product demonstrations by more than 100 companies
- “Blockbuster” sessions

- 31st Poletop Rescue Competition, 7th Forklift Rodeo, and Governor’s Lifesaving Awards.
An $80 advance registration fee covers the two-day event; cost at the door is $95 per person. Mail-in registrations must be postmarked by Aug. 31, and online registration closes Sept. 24.
Conference attendees are eligible for continuing-education credits from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, recertification credit hours from the Human Resource Certification Institute, and industrial hygiene credits.
