Electrical Licensing, Exams and Educational Requirements

To work in Washington State, all electrical workers must have a proper certificate. To hire electrical workers, all electrical or telecommunications contractors must have a proper license.

Electrical Licenses & Certificates

Apply or renew a certificate or license online, by mail, or in person.

Electrical Exam Information

Electrical and telecommunications administrators, electricians and master electricians are required to take the appropriate exam to qualify for their certificate.

Educational Requirements

Electrical trainees must complete basic trainee classes to renew their certification. These classes are identified as Basic Trainee Classes.

Electrical administrators, master electricians, and electricians must complete continuing education courses in order to renew their certificates.

Basic Trainee Classroom Education

Electrical trainees must complete certain basic trainee classes in order to renew their training certificate. These classes are also required to qualify to take an electrician examination. Only approved basic trainee class credits can be applied toward renewal of a training certificate or educational requirements for exam qualification.

Continuing Education

Electrical administrators, electricians and master electricians must complete continuing education courses to renew their certificates. Only approved continuing education credits can be applied toward renewal of a certificate.
