Exchanging Data With L&I

L&I works with a wide range of health care organizations. Whatever the size of the practice, it is important to exchange timely and complete treatment and claim information so that injured workers can heal and return to work as quickly and easily as possible.

To address the needs of our partners, L&I is developing three types of data exchanges:

  • Health Information Exchange (HIE) — Partnering with OneHealthPort to exchange data automatically with health care organizations that use Electronic Medical Records (EMRs). Find out more about HIE.
  • Electronic data entry — Providers enter data into an online transaction behind L&I's firewall that allows L&I to receive the data. For example, online claim filing. This approach may work best for organizations that do not use EMRs, or that treat few workers' compensation patients.
  • Paper — Completing forms and reports on paper, then faxing or mailing them to L&I. This method of sharing information will continue to be available, but it is slower and doesn't allow L&I to immediately flag and respond to provider information and questions. L&I is continuing to improve its paper forms and processes.
