Washington has 29 recognized tribes. L&I's Tribal Liaison and committee members work together to build stronger connections with these tribes, showing respect and inclusion for our diverse community.
The responsibilities of L&I's Tribal Liaison includes:
- Coordinating discussions with tribes to hear their concerns.
- Helping improve practices that make it easier for L&I and tribes to collaborate and communicate.
- Leading meetings for the L&I Tribal Advisory Committee.
- Providing the governor with a yearly report about L&I's work with tribes in reference to the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) 43.376.
- Setting up training for L&I employees that work with tribal governments.
