L&I experts are available to consult with employers on many topics.
Safety and Health Consultation
Safety or Industrial Hygiene consultants provide assistance with building your safety program, training, identifying and controlling hazards, and following applicable safety rules. No fines or penalties will result from issues uncovered during a consultation. However, consultants will ask you to correct any serious issues and offer assistance.
Risk Management Consultation
Risk Management Consultants provide employers with data analysis specific to how worker injury claims affect their workers' compensation insurance premiums. They also show the cost benefit of return-to-work options, discuss "claim-free discounts" and how to protect them, and review best practices in hiring strategies and procedures.
Ergonomic specialists can help you find solutions to prevent sprain and strain injuries. These injuries are associated with high workers' compensation costs.
Equal Pay and Opportunities Act Consultation
L&I offers free customized consultations to help employers understand the impact the Equal Pay and Opportunities Act (EPOA) might have on their organization and employment practices, and provide a proactive evaluation of possible specific risks.
Isolated Worker Consultation
L&I offers free customized consultations to help employers understand the impact the isolated worker protection law (RCW 49.60.515) might have on their organization and employment practices, and provide a proactive evaluation of possible specific risks.
Early Return to Work Consultation
L&I's Early Return to Work Consultation (ERTWC) team provides expertise and assistance to employers and workers, even before an on the job injury, by helping remove barriers that prevent injured workers from maintaining employment.
Are you looking to:
- Limit claim costs and unexpected delays?
- Prepare for future claims?
- Create a work culture that encourages workers to return to work?
Workers' Compensation Determinations
Many businesses that engage independent contractors are unaware of their obligation to provide workers' compensation insurance coverage for their contractors in certain cases, based both on the individual hired and on the nature of the engagement.
L&I's Determinations Unit provides guidance so that misclassification errors, resulting in costly audit findings and liability for injury related costs, are avoided.
