The purpose of this proposal is to amend Chapter 296-46B WAC, Electrical safety standards, administration, and installation. L&I’s Electrical Program reviewed the existing rules and adopted 2026 National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) 70, National Electrical Code (NEC), to update rules for consistency with the latest national safety standards. The NEC sets the standard for safe electrical design, installation and inspection in homes, businesses, industry, and institutions to protect people and property from electrical hazards. The 2026 NEC replaces the current 2023 edition on December 31, 2026. Washington’s electrical industry stakeholders participated in the formal review process. A Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) of industry representatives and the state Electrical Board reviewed proposals and provided recommendations to L&I on proposed amendments to the rules.
