The Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) is conducting rulemaking to update the requirements in chapter 296-800 WAC, Safety and health core rules. DOSH initiated this rulemaking to streamline language, as well make updates necessary to align with the requirements of the Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Washington State rules.

In addition, this rulemaking intends to:
     • Consider updates for WAC 296-800-13020 in response to a petition L&I received regarding the length of the term a safety committee member may serve.
     • Address housekeeping and formatting issues.

This rulemaking may include other changes related to workplace safety.

Labor & Industries filed a Preproposal Statement of Inquiry (CR-101) on July 23, 2024, to initiate rulemaking. L&I invites interested parties to attend upcoming stakeholder meetings. During the virtual meetings, L&I will provide an overview of the rulemaking, share preliminary draft rule language, and provide an open forum for questions and comments. L&I welcomes and encourages stakeholder participation. A second stakeholder meeting will be held on February 13, 2025.
